North Central Regional Chapter
Responding to requests for Auto Theft training beyond his jurisdictional boundaries, Illinois State Police Captain Clyde Oliver petitioned the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators and was granted a Charter on January 1, 1972 to form the North Central Regional Chapter. Currently the NCRC draws its membership from the Mid-Western United States and the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Manitoba.
North East Regional Chapter
The NE-IAATI was formed and received its charter from IAATI in 1972. The founding charter members in their wisdom saw the present and future need of an organization which would serve those persons involved in the field of vehicle theft investigation in the northeastern USA and the eastern part of Canada.
South East Regional Chapter
The Southeast Chapter includes the entire area of the States of Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Western Regional Chapter
The Western Regional Chapter was formed and received their IAATI Charter in 1988. The WRC is comprised of 3 Canadian Provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan along with the U.S. States of California, Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Alaska, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Utah.
When the WRC was initially formed there was a concern by the local State and Provincial auto theft associations that had been in existence for many years that the WRC would somehow usurp and interfere with their stated objectives and training seminars.
As a result of this concern the stated objective of the WRC became one of support for the regional auto theft associations and the training they provided and not to develop a separate Western Regional Chapter Training Seminar. As a result of this stated objective the WRC became known as the “paper chapter” as unlike the other Regional Chapters that make up IAATI, no yearly training seminar would be held so as to conflict with the State and Provincial Auto Theft Associations. This objective remains in place to this day.
To further augment the WRC commitment to the local State and Provincial Auto Theft Associations the Board of Directors of the WRC is comprised of the Presidents of the State and Provincial Auto Theft Associations that exist today within the Western Regional Chapter.
Australasian Branch
The Australasian Branch of the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (I.A.A.T.I.) was formed in Australia in 1994. We have members throughout every State of Australia and New Zealand. Membership is made up of representatives from police services (investigators, analysts, and forensic staff), insurers, private investigators, vehicle registration authorities, vehicle manufacturers and others with a legitimate interest in vehicle theft investigation, prevention and education.
European Branch
The European Branch of IAATI was established in 1989 and in 2021 the charter was suspended. In 2022 the Branch restarted and take new steps into the future.
Membership is made up of representatives from police services (investigators, analysts, and forensic staff), insurers, private investigators, vehicle registration authorities, vehicle manufacturers and others with a legitimate interest in vehicle theft investigation, prevention and education.The Branch now consists of members from all over Europe and UK
United Kingdom Branch
The United Kingdom Branch of IAATI was formed and received its charter in 2001. The founding members saw an excellent opportunity to serve the needs of their region and those people engaged in the prevention and detection of vehicle crime. The United Kingdom Branch includes the countries of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Southern African Branch
The Southern African Branch of IAATI was established August 22, 1991, but it’s charter was suspended in 1996 as a result of the phasing out of the vehicle crime investigation environment. In 2007, the Branch was revived and it has been growing in numbers steadily since then. The Branch now consists of members from Cameroon, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Latin American Branch
The Latin American Branch of IAATI received its charter on August 23, 2012 at IAATI’s 60th Annual Seminar in Kansas City, MO USA. A delegation from South America saw the need for the organization of the Branch to combat Auto Theft, Insurance Fraud and its kindred crimes, but also to bring together the countries of Latin America to further this goal.
